Last-minute Amsterdam massage: a fast message, an honest window and a calm wait
A last-minute booking is a booking for as soon as possible. It goes well when the first message is short and complete. It goes badly when the message is long and the hour is missing. Here is the quick way to do it.
As soon as possible is a real request
You may write as soon as possible, or the short form asap. Both are understood. The reply then names the earliest start it can offer. In central Amsterdam that start lies forty to sixty minutes after you agree. It cannot come sooner, because she has to travel across the city to you. If the earliest start is later than you hoped, the reply tells you so, and you are free to say no.
The shortest complete message
Speed comes from a complete first message, not from a hurried one. Put four things in it, each on its own line: where you are, the words as soon as possible, the length, and a name or no preference. In a hotel, write the hotel name, and send the room number when you have it. In a flat, write the street, the house number and the floor mark. That is all the first reply needs from you.
Answer the reply at once
A last-minute booking is lost most often after the reply has arrived, while it waits unread. Keep the thread open on your screen. When the reply names a woman, an hour and a total, answer with one word: yes. The window starts from that word, so every pause before it moves the knock later. If something in the reply is wrong, say which part, in one line.
Using the wait well
Forty to sixty minutes is enough time to get ready without rushing. Take a shower. Warm the room, because oil on cool skin feels cold very fast. Clear the bed and the chair of clothes and bags. Find the switch for a soft lamp. Then sit down and wait. Do not start a long phone call, because the knock can come at the first moment of the window.
A first booking at short notice
Short notice does not remove the deposit from a first booking. Half of the total is paid before she sets out, and the thread tells you how once the hour is agreed. A guest who has booked before, and who asks for one or two hours today at a city address, pays nothing first. The order of the messages is shown on the booking page, and the rules for the day itself are on the same-day page.
