Amsterdam massage at New Year: the right date, the fireworks and a booking made early
New Year's Eve is the one night when the day, the month and the year all change at midnight. That makes it very easy to write wrong. This page shows how to write it right, and what else changes in the city that night.
Three changes at midnight
At midnight on the thirty-first of December, the day, the month and the year all change at once. A booking for 01:00 that night is, on the calendar, a booking for the first of January of the new year. Write it as the night from the thirty-first of December to the first of January, at 01:00. Nobody can misread that line, in any country. The short story Friday night, with a Saturday date shows the same trap on an ordinary weekend.
Stay clear of the midnight hour
New Year's Eve in Amsterdam is loud around midnight, with fireworks and crowds in the streets. A session that starts right at midnight is a poor idea. Choose an hour well before, so the session ends before the noise begins, or well after, when the streets have calmed down. On this night above all, book an hour when you will be clear-headed, because she can stop a visit if a guest is plainly drunk.
A busy date with a deposit
The days from Christmas to New Year are busy dates. On those days, half of the total is paid before she sets out, for every guest. A booking made more than a day ahead has that deposit anyway. Book early, because the evening of the thirty-first and the night after it tend to fill early. The rules are on the deposit and cancel page.
Reaching your door that night
Some streets in the centre are packed around midnight, and taxis can be hard to find. In central Amsterdam the window is still forty to sixty minutes from your yes, but an hour well away from midnight is calmer for both of you. If your hotel locks its main door for the night, write which door she should use.
The first of January
The first day of the year is quiet in Amsterdam, and many places open late. A guest who stayed up for the fireworks may prefer an afternoon or early evening session on the first. Write the date in full, the first of January, with the hour on the twenty-four hour clock beside it. If you write on the thirty-first for a session on the first, check that the reply repeats the date you meant before you say yes.
